BFA in Dance (Honours)
York University — Toronto, Ontario
About this program
York University's Dance BFA is Canada's first and most comprehensive dance program. The 120-credit program balances movement and theory, guiding students to become skilled and reflective dancers, choreographers, or teachers. In first year, students explore multiple areas of dance, building the technical, artistic, and academic groundwork for the degree. In upper years, students have increased performance opportunities and can audition for the York Dance Ensemble, the department's resident pre-professional company. Two streams: Choreography/Performance (studio work in contemporary/modern dance, with options in urban, contemporary/ballet, and world dance forms) and Dance Education (theoretical and practical aspects of teaching dance in various settings). Students can also apply to the 5-year Teacher Training Program with Canada's National Ballet School, earning both a BFA from York and a diploma from NBS.
