About this program
California State University, Fullerton's NASM-accredited School of Music offers the Bachelor of Music in the Keyboard Concentration, designed to train highly gifted students who show the capability and promise of becoming professional performers. Students may audition for one of two emphases within the Keyboard Concentration: solo performance (piano, organ, or harpsichord) or accompanying (for pianists who wish to specialize in collaborative piano). The Piano and Organ Division Coordinator is Prof. Alison Edwards. All members of the keyboard faculty are active as performers, teachers, and scholars, and are committed to excellence in helping students find their artistic voice, discover their personal teaching style, develop creativity and research skills, rekindle their love of keyboard music, and take their place in the music profession. Faculty include Grammy Award-winning jazz pianist Bill Cunliffe, collaborative pianist and pedagogy specialist Alison Edwards, and concert pianist Robert Watson. CSUF keyboard students perform internationally as soloists and in piano ensemble teams, coming from the USA and over 15 foreign countries. The Pianists in Performance outreach program serves Southern California communities. Alumni pursue careers as freelance performers, professional accompanists, organists, soloists, and collaborative artists around the world. All music majors must show basic proficiency as a singer or instrumentalist to gain entrance to the School. Even students denied university admission may be advocated for admission by the School based on talent.
