About this program
California State University, Fullerton's NASM-accredited School of Music offers the Bachelor of Music in the Instrumental Concentration for Classical Guitar. Having offered degrees in guitar for over 30 years, CSUF has one of the nation's most comprehensive guitar programs and has earned an international reputation as one of the finest classical guitar programs in the country. Many graduates are now active professional performers and teachers. Classes in guitar history and literature complement individual instruction. The Guitar Performance Workshop and guitar chamber ensembles provide frequent solo and ensemble performance opportunities. The CSUF Guitar Orchestra and chamber ensembles perform repertoire from duets, trios, and quartets to full guitar orchestra works, and travel once per year to perform at events throughout the Western United States. State-funded lessons and scholarship assistance are available. The guitar student's experience is enriched by a steady stream of noted artists visiting for master classes and recitals, including an annual visit from Artist in Residence Alvaro Pierri. The Classical Guitar Club is one of the most active student organizations on campus. All music majors must show basic proficiency as a singer or instrumentalist to gain entrance to the School. Even students denied university admission may be advocated for admission by the School based on talent.
