About this program
California State University, Fullerton's NASM-accredited School of Music offers the Bachelor of Music in the Instrumental Concentration for string instruments including violin, viola, cello, double bass, and harp. Students receive a specialized yet comprehensive education participating in numerous chamber ensembles and the University Orchestra. State-funded lessons and a variety of scholarships are available. Graduates are active in both educational and professional settings. Master classes are regularly offered by regional and internationally acclaimed artists; past participants have included Jorja Fleezanis, Glenn Dicterow, Ben Sung, Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, and members of the Pacific Symphony Orchestra and Los Angeles Philharmonic. The University Orchestra, under Prof. Kimo Furumoto, performs several times per year and collaborates with university choruses, Opera Theatre, faculty artists, and internationally renowned guests. The School of Music is the birthplace of the Pacific Symphony Orchestra. All music majors must show basic proficiency as a singer or instrumentalist to gain entrance to the School. Even students denied university admission may be advocated for admission by the School of Music based on musical talent.
