BA in Performance Design (Hons)
Royal Central School of Speech and Drama — London, England
About this program
The BA (Hons) Performance Design at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama is a three-year program training set and costume designers for theatre, opera, film, and live performance. Students learn to develop and communicate design concepts across text analysis, technical drawing (including AutoCAD), costume drawing, model making, storyboarding using Adobe Photoshop, and projected media. Note: The former BA (Hons) Design for Performance has been replaced by the new BA Performance Design as the current program. Students work alongside acting, stage management, lighting, and costume production students on Central's public production program, gaining first-hand experience of the collaborative design process. Industry placements are offered in Years 2 and 3, with past students placed at the National Theatre Design Office, Sadler's Wells, the National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts, and major film productions. Central is a University of London institution with an £16.7 million North Block facility including a courtyard theatre and sound stage. Central is one of the most prestigious specialist performing arts institutions in the world. Applications via UCAS.
