BA in Drama and Applied Theatre (Hons)
Royal Central School of Speech and Drama — London, England
About this program
The BA (Hons) Drama and Applied Theatre (BA DATE) at Central is a pioneering three-year degree designed for students passionate about theatre as a force for social change. The program trains critical practitioners, performance makers, and educators who want to be at the forefront of applied theatre — a field that uses drama in educational, community, therapeutic, and social contexts. The curriculum combines devising, performance, directing, writing, facilitation, and producing alongside professional placements in applied theatre organizations. Central works closely with major organizations including the Royal Court Theatre, National Theatre, Unicorn Theatre, Graeae, Half Moon Youth Theatre, Clean Break, Shakespeare's Globe, and London Bubble Theatre Company. A major professional placement in Year 3 is a key component. Central is University of London. This program does not require a performance audition — admissions are based on a written application, personal statement, and interview process. Access to Central Bursary available for UK students with household income under £35,000.
