About this program

The BMus (Hons) Music Composition at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (RBC) is a four-year, full-time professional composition degree — the Principal Study: Composition pathway within the broader BMus program. Students graduate with a named degree: BMus (Hons) Music — Composition. RBC is housed in a purpose-built £57 million building with a 440-seat Bradshaw Concert Hall, Recital Hall, The Lab (black-box performance space), seven recording studios, editing and mastering suites, and professional facilities spanning composition, music technology, and orchestral performance. The program benefits from a richly multidisciplinary conservatoire environment — students study alongside performers, jazz musicians, and music technology students — and from access to Birmingham's thriving creative sector. RBC was named the top-performing UK conservatoire in the National Student Survey and ranks Top 10 in the UK for Music (Guardian). Final projects can range from live performances to musicological dissertations to professionally marketed recordings. Applications via UCAS; admission by portfolio.
