About this program
The BA (Hons) Applied Theatre (Community and Education) at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire is a three-year, full-time program preparing theatre-makers to create performances and workshops with a social purpose. Rated Top 5 in the UK for Drama and Dance (Guardian 2025), the program develops skills in devising, directing, performing, facilitation, workshop-leading, and drama education for community settings including schools, community groups, hospitals, prisons, and social care environments. Students benefit from actor training experiences alongside a contemporary theatre-making curriculum, and undertake a six-to-eight week professional placement in Year 2 with theatre companies, community groups, or schools in the UK or overseas. Industry partners have included the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, Birmingham Hippodrome, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Lyric Hammersmith, and Soho Theatre. The program is based at RBC and uses external Birmingham professional venues. Applications are made via main UCAS (not UCAS Conservatoires). An interview is required; no audition fee.
