BM in Music — Jazz Studies
Louisiana State University — Baton Rouge, LA
About this program
The BM in Music (Jazz Studies) at LSU's School of Music trains jazz performers — saxophonists, trumpeters, trombonists, pianists, guitarists, bassists, and drummers — within a NASM-accredited program. Students develop improvisation, theory, history, and ensemble skills in a conservatory-within-a-university environment. LSU's jazz program performs regularly in multiple ensemble settings and has access to the full range of School of Music performance opportunities. Jazz auditions emphasize improvisation across multiple styles: medium swing, straight-eighth, blues, and Rhythm Changes. Live piano accompaniment is provided for live auditions; students are also encouraged to bring their own play-along recordings.
