About this program
The BA in Theatre Arts is the liberal arts pathway within ECU's nationally recognised School of Theatre and Dance. Unlike the BFA concentrations, the BA requires NO performance audition — admission requires: ECU undergraduate application + writing sample + interview with BA Area Coordinator Dr. Jennifer-Scott Mobley (mobleyj15@ecu.edu; 252-737-4366; 202 Messick Theatre Arts Center). BA AREA COORDINATOR: Dr. Jennifer-Scott Mobley — dramaturg, director, and feminist theatre scholar; specialises in female-identified playwrights and the female body in performance; DPhil Theatre Studies, CUNY Graduate Center; MFA Dramaturgy and Theatre Criticism, Brooklyn College. Co-editor of Lesbian and Queer Plays from the Jane Chambers Prize (2019) and Cross-Cultural Feminisms: Plays from the Jane Chambers Prize (NoPassport Press, 2023); author of Female Bodies on the American Stage. CURRICULUM: Acting, directing, dramaturgy, design and production, script analysis, stage management, theatre history and literature, voice and articulation. Upper-division electives chosen based on student interest. BEST FIT: Students with multiple academic interests, those pursuing double majors, those interested in directing, dramaturgy, theatre management, arts administration, or arts writing and criticism. STUDENT ORGANISATIONS: Fifth Street Players (student-produced company); SWISH Improv; Reader's Theatre; East Carolina Theatre Association.
