About this program

Shenandoah University's Shenandoah Conservatory, located in Winchester, Virginia, is one of the most distinguished conservatories in the United States and Virginia's premier home for collaborative performing arts education. The Conservatory enrolls over 600 students in baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral programmes across music, theatre, dance, and performing arts leadership, and produces more than 300 performances each year. The overall university acceptance rate is 77.8%, but the BFA in Musical Theatre acceptance rate is less than 3%, making it one of the most competitive musical theatre programmes in the country. The BFA in Musical Theatre at Shenandoah Conservatory is the second-oldest such programme in the United States. Known nationally and internationally for its distinctive "pop/rock" orientation (though the full programme covers all genres and historical periods), Shenandoah's musical theatre curriculum integrates healthy vocal technique training, Meisner acting methodology (taught by one of the country's pre-eminent master teachers), and comprehensive dance training across two tracks (advanced and beginner/intermediate) covering ballet, jazz, tap, and musical theatre styles. Annual alumni appear on Broadway (current and recent), in national tours, and in major film and television productions. Recent alum Nathan Diaz '24 has joined the original company of the new musical Basura at Alliance Theatre.
