BM in Music Education (Vocal, Instrumental, or Combination emphasis)
Nebraska Wesleyan University — Lincoln, NE
About this program
Nebraska Wesleyan's Bachelor of Music in Music Education is offered in three emphases: Vocal, Instrumental, and Combination. The Combination emphasis requires competency on a secondary instrument (vocal emphasis students also train instrumentally, and vice versa); where competency is lacking, students register in applied music courses to build it. The curriculum pairs applied lessons, ensemble participation, conducting (non-baton and baton), music theory, and history with Education coursework including methods, placements, Secondary Choral Methods Lab (20+ hours of classroom observation and teaching), and a full student teaching semester. Students perform at NWU's Music Showcase Concert, Christmas with Wesleyan, and the spring Big Sing.
