BFA in Musical Theatre
Florida State University — Tallahassee, FL
About this program
Florida State University's School of Theatre is consistently recognized as one of the finest theatre programs in the nation. The BFA Music Theatre program is a JOINT degree offered through the College of Fine Arts (School of Theatre) AND the College of Music, with cooperation from the School of Dance. 'The Music Theatre Program prepares talented students from around the country for professional careers.' TWO PATHS TO THE MUSIC THEATRE DEGREE: Path 1: BFA in Music Theatre through the College of Fine Arts (School of Theatre). Path 2: BM in Music Performance (Musical Theatre Track) through the College of Music. Both programs share the same curriculum — students work across both schools and are generally treated as majors in both. Visit music.fsu.edu for BM pathway information. BFA CURRICULUM: Acting; music; dance — 'the greatest strength of the program is its joint nature, allowing the faculty and the students to understand and explore the connections and to bring all three areas together.' Students are truly triple-threats — trained in singing, acting, and dancing. PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES: Two musicals each season; roles in all other School of Theatre productions; access to all School of Theatre spaces (two proscenium theatres + two flexible laboratory/black-box spaces + studios + shops). SENIOR SHOWCASE: Graduating seniors perform in NYC each spring for directors, talent agents, and casting directors from across the United States. One of the most distinguished senior showcases in the country. LONDON THEATRE PROGRAMME: Students attend the FSU London Study Center for a semester of theatre with England's best teachers and artists. They attend theatre every week and visit other countries during breaks. SCHOLARSHIPS: Awarded to incoming BFA students based on academic ability and potential for achievement in their BFA emphasis. IMPORTANT: FSU uses a SCHOOL-SPECIFIC APPLICATION — NOT the Common App. Apply at admissions.fsu.edu. Application Checklist appears 1-2 hours after submitting the FSU application, where the Music Theatre Supplemental Application is added. ALL AUDITIONS ARE ON CAMPUS: FSU does not conduct off-campus or virtual final auditions.
