About this program
Elon's BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography is 'a performance and creative-based program designed to prepare students for a professional performance or creative career in dance.' Students 'don't have to wait in line to perform' — performance opportunities begin from the first semester. REQUIRED TECHNIQUE: Advanced levels of ballet; contemporary modern; West African. ELECTIVES: Jazz; tap; world dance; musical theatre dance. SOMAT IC TRAINING: Structural yoga for dancers; classical Pilates; experiential anatomy. CREATIVE TRAINING: Improvisation; two levels of choreography. INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES: American Dance Festival; Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival; Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company; Mark Morris Dance Group; Parsons Dance Company; Boston Ballet; City Dance Ensemble; Los Angeles Ballet; LA Dance Project; Ate9 Dance Company; Diavolo Dance Theatre; Debbie Allen Dance Academy; Royal Flux Dance Company; Urbanity Dance; summer stock and community venues. ANNUAL CONFERENCES: North Carolina Dance Education Organization; American College Dance Association. SCHOLARSHIPS: Up to $8,000/year; all auditionees automatically considered. AUDITION DATES: On-campus auditions are offered in October, November, January, and February, with prescreen deadlines in advance of each date. No virtual audition dates.
