About this program
EMU's Department of Music has been NASM-accredited for 50+ years. The department has 40+ faculty, 230+ music majors, and presents approximately 200 events per year. THREE DEGREE OPTIONS: BM in Music Performance and Pedagogy — intensive performance study; includes pedagogy coursework preparing for private teaching careers alongside professional performance. BM in Music Education (5-year programme; instrumental or vocal) — leads to Michigan teaching certification; five-year programme combining full performance training with comprehensive music education coursework and student teaching. BA in Music — flexible liberal arts music degree; for double majors, music business interest, or those preparing for graduate school in non-performance areas. FACILITIES — Alexander Music Building (86,000 sq ft): 120 Steinway and Yamaha pianos. Pease Auditorium (1,500-seat). Alexander Recital Hall. Rehearsal and practice spaces.
