About this program
EMU's BA in Dance provides comprehensive dance training within the Department of Theatre Arts, which houses Company E — the resident professional dance company. The programme's integration with an active professional company distinguishes it from most undergraduate dance degrees. COMPANY E: EMU's resident professional dance company; performs both on and off campus; provides advanced performance opportunities for dance majors. CURRICULUM: Technique (ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop, musical theatre dance); choreography; dance history; kinesiology for dancers; teaching methodology; production and design for dance. SCHOLARSHIP PRIORITY: Audition by March 1 for scholarship consideration. MAXIMUM AUDITION ATTEMPTS: Two attempts total. DRESS CODE FOR IN-PERSON AUDITION: Conservative dance attire — leotards, footless or convertible tights, unitards; hair secured in a secure up-do; ballet slippers + jazz shoes + bare feet for modern portions; no pointe shoes; no tap shoes.
