BM in Music Education — Choral Concentration

Columbus State University — Columbus, GA

BMMusicColumbus, GA

About this program

CSU's BM in Music Education, Choral Concentration prepares skilled vocalists to become K-12 choral directors and music classroom teachers. Students complete private voice lessons on their primary voice area, participate in choral ensembles throughout all four years, and complete rigorous music education coursework through both the Schwob School of Music and the CSU College of Education. The Choral Concentration is distinctive in its audition requirements — vocalists must sing two contrasting art songs from memory in original language or English translation with piano accompaniment. Voice faculty include **Dr. Joshua May** (Opera Director), **Dr. Laura Thomason**, and **Dr. Michelle DeBruyn**, all of whom mentor choral students through the demanding curriculum. Students must demonstrate proficiency in applied music through the preparation and performance of a **senior vocal recital** exhibiting effective artistic expression. Field experiences run throughout the program, culminating in a student teaching semester. 100% graduate placement rate.
