BA in Music Composition for Media
Columbia College Chicago — Chicago, IL
About this program
Columbia College Chicago's BA in Music Composition for Media is an accessible professional pathway for emerging composers who want to develop a creative voice for diverse media applications — including film and television, games, theatre, and dance — without the additional credits and selectivity requirements of the BMus Composition and Production. Students receive hands-on experience with industry-standard music notation and production software, develop digital and acoustic orchestration skills, and dive into multitrack recording. All music majors perform in ensemble courses covering contemporary, urban, and popular styles (pop, rock, jazz, gospel) under accomplished professional faculty. Private lessons are available from professional musicians, and students build a substantial portfolio of original work throughout the program. The degree capitalises on Columbia's deep connection to the media arts industry. Students can collaborate with Cinema and Television Arts students on scoring projects and interact with graduate students in the MFA Music Composition for the Screen program. The Music Center (1014 S. Michigan Ave.) hosts over 200 performances and workshops per year.
