About this program
CMU's NASM-accredited BME in Music Education K-12 prepares students for Colorado K-12 music teaching licensure through a professional curriculum combining rigorous musical training with pedagogical coursework and supervised student teaching. Students complete applied lessons on their primary instrument or voice, participate in major ensembles, and complete all required music education methods, field experience, and student teaching placements across Colorado K-12 schools. The program is designed to produce music educators who are also accomplished performers, maintaining ensemble participation and performance requirements throughout all four years alongside the education curriculum. All CMU music degree students have access to the same ensemble, performance, and professional development opportunities.
