About this program
CCU's BFA Physical Theatre Concentration is one of the only undergraduate Physical Theatre programs in the United States. The program provides instruction in European-style techniques in clowning, circus skills, acrobatics, dance, movement, voicework, and text creation to produce original devised material. The program attracts students from a national base interested in the intersection of theatre, activism, and experimentation in performance. Students study abroad with international partners including Theatre Academy London. Physical Theatre students perform in the full main stage production season alongside Acting and Musical Theatre students, and also create original devised work. The program trains students to create physical theatre that is accessible to diverse audiences and that crosses cultural and linguistic barriers — a key focus of the professional physical theatre field internationally.
