About this program
CCU's BFA Musical Theatre Concentration is a nationally top-25-ranked, structured, intensive studio-based program designed to produce professional actor-singers. The program defines musical theatre broadly to encompass musical comedy, the musical play, new and alternative music theatre, Broadway opera, cabaret, and revue. Acting is at the center: students take acting classes all eight semesters, from classical training through musical theatre scene study. An intensive eight-semester parallel track in vocal technique and musicianship runs concurrently. Dance and movement training includes classes for advanced and beginning dancers across all four years. Musical Theatre students are required to participate in production as both performers and in other capacities — assistant directing, stage management, dramaturgy, production assistance, and backstage staff. All students are evaluated annually; students must meet professional standards to continue in the BFA program. In the fall of senior year, students audition for inclusion in the annual CCU Senior Showcase, which is performed in the spring for agents, casting directors, and industry professionals in New York City.
