BM in Music / Vocal Music Teaching PreK-12

Bethany College (Kansas) — Lindsborg, KS

About this program

The Bachelor of Music in Music / Vocal Music Teaching PreK-12 at Bethany College prepares students for careers as PreK-12 vocal/choral music teachers, leading to Kansas state teaching licensure. The program is offered through Bethany’s NASM-accredited Department of Music (NASM-accredited since 1935) in coordination with the teacher education program. Students complete the music education core curriculum (theory, history, ear training, applied voice or other lessons, ensembles), choral methods coursework, vocal pedagogy, conducting, music education foundations, and student teaching. The mission of the Bethany College Music Department is to nurture, challenge and guide developing musicians, to train the future educators for both classroom and studio areas, and to provide performance opportunities for students, faculty, and community members. Bethany’s heritage of choral excellence — including the Bethany Choir (founded 1935 under Dr. Hagbard Brase, with concerts under John Rutter and master classes with Chanticleer) and the historic Bethany Oratorio Society (Messiah every Holy Week since 1882) — provides an unparalleled choral training environment. Bethany is a private Lutheran liberal arts college affiliated with the ELCA; founded 1881.
