About this program
The Bachelor of Arts in Music at Alma College is the flexible liberal arts music degree, combining a broad liberal arts foundation with rigorous training in music theory, history, musicianship, and performance. The BA Music is offered alongside the BMus in Performance and BMus in Music Education through Alma’s NASM-accredited Music Department. Musicians at Alma study with experienced professors who are themselves professional performers and respected scholars. Musicians here practice on Steinway pianos, work with the most current technology and give concerts and recitals in the magnificent Heritage Center for the Performing Arts. The BA in Music allows students to combine music study with another major or extensive coursework outside the music department, supporting career paths in music industry, music journalism, arts administration, music technology, and graduate study. Alma is a private Presbyterian liberal arts college (~1,200 students) founded in 1886. The Music Department is committed to providing courses and curricula for music majors so that they may have the necessary foundation to pursue graduate study, teaching, performing or music-related fields; strengthening students’ musical skills by expanding proficiency in technique; being an artistic presence within the community; and providing the general student with a basic understanding of the language and history of music.
