About this program

The University of Kansas is the flagship public research university of Kansas, founded in 1865 and located in Lawrence — a vibrant college city of 100,000 in northeastern Kansas, 40 miles west of Kansas City. KU enrolls approximately 20,000 undergraduates. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences houses the Department of Theatre and Dance, while the School of Music operates as a separate unit ranked among the finest music schools in America. Uniquely, no audition is required for entry into any of KU's Theatre or Dance degree programmes — students are assessed through a Sophomore Review at the end of their second year, giving students time to develop before undergoing formal evaluation. The School of Music requires an audition for all music degree programmes (with a limit of two attempts). KU Dance operates as an undergraduate-only programme — students dance principal roles from day one — and benefits from the Hamburg and Peterson Guest Artist Programs, through which professional choreographers spend two weeks in intensive work with students before setting pieces on the University Dance Company. The Lied Center of Kansas hosts touring professional companies that frequently offer master classes for KU students. In-state tuition: approximately $10,000/year; out-of-state: approximately $27,000/year (confirm at ku.edu).
