About this program
Smith College is the largest women's college in the United States, a highly selective private liberal arts institution in Northampton, Massachusetts. The Theatre Department is ranked in the top 5% of U.S. theatre programmes. The BA in Theatre at Smith integrates production experience with rigorous academic study of dramatic literature, history, criticism, and practice. Three mainstage productions are mounted each year, directed and designed by faculty, guest artists, and students; students also direct, design, and perform in one-act studio productions and the New Play Reading Series. Facilities include Theatre 14 (Mendenhall Center for the Performing Arts) and the Hallie Flanagan Studio Theatre. Majors and non-majors alike audition for and work on all productions. The Five College Theatre consortium allows access to courses and productions across all five campuses. Smith also offers MFA programmes in Playwriting.
