About this program
The BMus (Hons) Jazz at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama (RWCMD) is a four-year, full-time degree training students for professional careers in jazz. The program incorporates many of the distinctive components of RWCMD's flagship BMus program alongside specialist jazz modules, covering vocal, instrumental, and composition within the genre. RWCMD is the National Conservatoire of Wales. The program offers individual lessons with multiple leading UK jazz professionals (rather than just one teacher), providing students with varied approaches and specialisms. Training includes in-depth study of jazz history and philosophy, jazz repertoire across a wide range of genres and sub-genres, ensemble playing, and the skills needed for a portfolio career as a contemporary jazz musician. The College has a thriving Cardiff jazz scene connection through partnerships, and students benefit from opportunities to perform at Cardiff venues and events.
