About this program

The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama (RWCMD) is the National Conservatoire of Wales — an independent higher education institution in the heart of Cardiff, located in the historic grounds of Cardiff Castle, bordering one of the largest urban parks in the UK. RWCMD is part of the University of South Wales Group. With fewer than 1,000 students, RWCMD is an intimate conservatoire-scale institution. 100% of students receive overall course satisfaction in the NSS for several key programs (BA Acting, BA Design, BMus Hons Strings). The college maintains active partnerships with Welsh National Opera (WNO) and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales (BBC NOW), providing students with professional performance and production contexts integrated throughout their studies. RWCMD is the first All-Steinway conservatoire in the UK and, since 2020, the world's first Steinway Exclusive Conservatoire — meaning every acoustic piano is a Steinway. Admissions routes: BMus Music, BA Acting, and BA Musical Theatre apply through UCAS Conservatoires (ucas.com/conservatoires). All other programs (design, stage management, foundation degrees) use standard UCAS Undergraduate. All degree programs require audition, interview, or portfolio review. The Acceptd platform is used to submit supplementary materials for auditioned programs. Note: for Acting and Musical Theatre, RWCMD will NOT accept applications after the published deadline — late applications are not accepted for these programs.
