BA in Design for Performance (Hons)
Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama — Cardiff, Wales
About this program
The BA (Hons) Design for Performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama (RWCMD) is a three-year, full-time program training set and costume designers for theatre, events, television, and film. Students develop design skills across collaborative costume (including costume-as-performance), scenic design, set and costume for classic texts, props and puppetry, scenic artistry, and the use of digital and traditional techniques. RWCMD is the National Conservatoire of Wales. From Year 1 students work collaboratively with Stage Management, Acting, and Musical Theatre students on RWCMD's more than 26 annual productions (including musical theatre and opera), working in roles including design assistant, scenic artist, prop maker, and costume supervisor. The program includes large-scale summer site-specific design projects unique to RWCMD. Final-year students present their work in the annual Balance showcase — a graduating designers' exhibition attended by industry professionals. Applications are made via UCAS Undergraduate (not UCAS Conservatoires) and processed through Acceptd for portfolio submission. Degrees are awarded by the University of South Wales.
