BM in Voice and Opera Performance
Northwestern University — Evanston, IL
About this program
The Bienen School of Music's Bachelor of Music in Voice and Opera Performance requires video prescreening (adhered to strictly) and a live (or case-by-case virtual) audition. Degree requirements include a minimum of 48 units composed of core music (13.5 units), major requirements (22.5 units), Foundational Disciplines (6 units), and electives (6 units), with a minimum of six courses taken outside of Bienen. Students receive weekly vocal instruction and have access to opera workshops, vocal solo classes, master classes, studio classes, recitals, and — for advanced undergraduates and graduate students — weekly musical preparation sessions with vocal coaches. Every year, voice students are invited to audition for the school's three fully-staged operas. Recent Bienen opera seasons have included works by Missy Mazzoli (Proving Up), Bizet (Carmen), and Puccini (La rondine). The Tichio-Finnie Vocal Master Class Series brings stars of the opera world to the Bienen School to coach top voice and opera students.
