About this program
The Bienen School of Music's Bachelor of Arts in Music is a liberal-arts degree; there are no performance-based BA degrees. BA students may pursue optional concentrations (declared after arrival at Northwestern) in composition, musicology, music cognition, music theory, or music education. BA students have a one-year ensemble requirement. There are no private lessons with faculty, but lessons with graduate students may be available. The BA in Music does NOT have an audition component, but applicants must submit music materials via the Bienen School Supplement following the deadlines on the Application & Timeline page.
