About this program
NYU's Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance is an intensive performance training program offered within an internationally acclaimed liberal arts and research university. The program offers three specializations: Classical Voice, Contemporary Voice, and Music Theatre. Students receive comprehensive training from leading vocalists in New York's professional community, with core coursework in music theory, aural comprehension, keyboard skills, and music history. The program emphasizes both technique and artistry, incorporating classes in acting, dance, diction, and vocal production. Classical Voice majors focus on opera performance and classical song repertoire with required junior and senior recitals. Contemporary Voice students develop technique with emphasis on vocal function and anatomy, while Music Theatre majors train in music theatre history, repertoire, and performance under the guidance of Broadway and regional theatre professionals. All students complete 128 credits and benefit from performance opportunities in fully staged productions and ensemble work.
