About this program
Nazareth's BM in Music Education prepares students for Pre-K-12 initial New York State music education certification. The curriculum combines professional courses in instrumental, choral, and general music methods with liberal arts distribution and an emphasis on PRACTICE-TEACHING experiences throughout the four-year sequence — hands-on teaching begins early rather than being concentrated solely in student teaching. Nazareth is an accredited institutional member of NASM (National Association of Schools of Music). Auditions require three pieces from the standard classical repertoire on voice or principal instrument. Students train in the 550-seat Glazer Music Performance Center. 70+ study abroad options include Austria and Italy for music education. Student chapters include NAfME, American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), and American String Teacher Association (ASTA).
