About this program
Fort Lewis College's BA in Musical Theatre is part of the Performing Arts Department's Theatre program — 'small but mighty' — which houses Musical Theatre, Theatre, and Theatre Education programs. CURRICULUM: 'Musical Theatre is an art form that trains a performer to be an actor, singer, and dancer.' Private voice lessons (throughout degree). Progressive dance classes. Specialized musical theatre techniques: Vocal Styles & Repertoire; Acting the Song; Professional Preparation. AUDITION PROCESS: Fill out the supplemental application form to schedule an on-campus audition or to submit an audition video. Dr. McKelvey will contact you to schedule your audition OR prompts you to upload your audition video. SCHOLARSHIPS: Music and theatre scholarships available. NATIVE AMERICAN TUITION WAIVER: Eligible Native American students attend tuition-free. VENUES: Community Concert Hall (600-seat; Durango's premier venue). Theatre Hall (two theatres + props/costume shops + set-building facility). Busby Amphitheatre (open-air; Native Puebloan architecture). NOTABLE PRODUCTIONS: Avenue Q; Cabaret; I'm Native And...; Nevermore: The Imaginary Life and Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe; Romeo & Juliet; Songs for a New World. 'MAJOR FOR A DAY': Visitors can sign up for the special 'Become a Theatre Major for a Day' campus tour experience to meet faculty and visit performance/class spaces.
