Florida Atlantic University — Boca Raton, FL
About this program
Florida Atlantic University's Department of Theatre & Dance — part of the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters — is home to TheatreLAB, the ONLY professional resident theatre company on campus in the entire State of Florida. Theatre has been an integral part of the FAU experience since its founding in 1964. THEATRELAB (est. 2015): Nationally recognized for commitment to developing new American plays. Since launch: provided 10,000 students across South Florida free creative writing workshops and visits to live theatrical performances; hosted 100 development readings of new work with playwrights in attendance. BFA students interact and work alongside professional artists and build their resume while studying. BFA ACTING/PERFORMANCE TRACK KEY FEATURES: Holistic training approach — regardless of specialty, all BFA students gain hands-on experience in all areas of theatre from the very first day. ALL BFA and MFA majors are REQUIRED to audition for all departmental productions and accept roles as cast. Students frequently perform alongside MFA acting candidates. PRODUCTION SEASON: 3 plays, 2 musicals, 2 dance showcases, 1 film project per academic year + 1 play + 1 musical in summer repertory season. FAU ATTENDS: Florida Theatre Conference (FTC); Moonifieds; CAP; Unifieds; Florida Combined; Thespians; and other recruiting events. PRESCREEN PROCESS: Prescreens accepted beginning in September.
