About this program
Emerson's BFA in Musical Theatre is the only Emerson performing arts programme that requires a prescreen before scheduling an audition. Emerson is a participant in the Musical Theater Common Prescreen (MTCP). PRESCREEN: MTCP prescreen required via Acceptd. Prescreen results sent to Acceptd messages within 2 weeks of submission. If not invited to Musical Theatre, student may be invited to audition for BFA Theatre and Performance instead (no additional fee required). CURRICULUM: Rigorous studio work in acting, singing, and dance; scholastic engagement; real-world opportunities in Boston's theatre scene; five professional-quality theatre spaces on campus through Emerson Stage. DANCE CALL: Included in every in-person Musical Theatre audition. MUSICIANSHIP EXERCISE: At the in-person or virtual audition, students complete a brief exercise designed to evaluate the ability to match pitch, remember a short musical phrase, and sight-sing a simple melodic line. FACILITIES AND EMERSON STAGE: Same five professional-quality theatre spaces as BFA Theatre and Performance.
