Eastern University is a Christian liberal arts institution in St. Davids, Pennsylvania (suburban Philadelphia; 1300 Eagle Road, St. Davids, PA 19087; 610-341-5800). The Theatre programme is directed by Dr. Valerie Flower (valerie.flower@eastern.edu) and coordinated by Bethany Miller (bethany.miller@eastern.edu). THREE CONCENTRATIONS: Performance — acting, voice and movement, scene study, theatrical technique, stage management, production participation from day one. Directing — directing methodology, stage composition, script analysis, supervision of production elements, stage management for at least two productions, senior directing capstone. Musical Theatre — acting, voice and movement for stage, applied voice, music theory, dance, history and literature of musical theatre. CHRISTIAN FAITH INTEGRATION: Eastern is a Christian institution (historically American Baptist). The curriculum includes THEA 3302 Christianity & Theatre, in which students develop a personal manifesto articulating their faith-informed approach to performance and production. The programme believes that 'the arts are an act of bearing witness to truth, beauty, and goodness as reflections of God.' FASTPASS: Eastern's FastPass programme allows students to move quickly from acceptance to enrollment with a streamlined process. PRODUCTION: Spring musical + fall dramatic productions every year. Students regularly participate in the Philadelphia Fringe Festival (one of the most important fringe festivals in the United States). Performing Arts Living Room — a less formal, student-run performance space for smaller scale experimentation. 24-Hour Play Festival annually. STUDENT ORGANISATIONS: Alpha Psi Omega (national theatre honour society); Applied Theatre company. RECENT PRODUCTIONS: Big Fish; Hamlet; The Illusion; Almost Maine; Frog and Toad; Working (Localized); Twofold (Philadelphia Fringe). SCHOLARSHIP AUDITIONS: Contact Bethany Miller (bethany.miller@eastern.edu) after starting an application to arrange scholarship audition. Virtual interviews available. No separate audition for programme admission.
