About this program
EIU's Department of Music offers 'the best value in education available in Illinois,' combining Doudna Fine Arts Center facilities with a 'young, motivated and caring faculty.' Chair: Dr. Shellie Gregorich (music@eiu.edu; 217-581-3010). BM PERFORMANCE CONCENTRATIONS: Instrumental; Keyboard; Vocal; Composition; Jazz Studies. All BM students must pass an Advanced Study Jury at end of sophomore year to advance to upper-level applied instruction. Junior and senior recitals are required of all BM Performance students. ADMISSION PROCESS: Full Audition — required for BM admission AND for scholarship consideration. Musical Skills Assessment — alternative pathway for those who cannot attend a full audition; qualifies for programme ADMISSION ONLY; does NOT qualify for any scholarship award. FACILITIES — Music Wing, Doudna Fine Arts Center: 568-seat Concert Hall — copper-clad stage shell; professionally tuned acoustics. 175-seat Recital Hall — opaque glass lining. Recording Studio — described as 'finest of its kind in Illinois'; all performance and large rehearsal spaces wired for recording. Wenger practice modules; smart-enabled classrooms; WiFi throughout. ENSEMBLES: Eastern Symphony Orchestra; Wind Symphony; Symphonic Band; Concert Band; Panther Marching Band; Jazz Combo and ensembles; Chamber music groups. SCHOLARSHIPS: Talent-based scholarships awarded rolling November–March. No separate scholarship application required — any student auditioning by March 1 is automatically considered. Awards based on audition quality and academic achievement.
