BA in Music
Eastern Illinois University — Charleston, IL
About this program
The BA in Music provides music study within a liberal arts framework. It is described as 'an attractive option for students who wish to pursue a double major' and 'a curricular platform for students who wish to prepare for graduate work in areas such as music theory, music history, music composition, music therapy, ethnomusicology, and arts administration.' TWO CONCENTRATIONS: Open Studies: Maximum flexibility; for students exploring music's possibilities without a defined career path; may pair with any other major or minor. Interdisciplinary Music Studies: Structured integration of music with another field of study; student designs the interdisciplinary focus in consultation with faculty. A full audition or Musical Skills Assessment is required for admission. IMPORTANT: Only the full audition qualifies for scholarship consideration — the Musical Skills Assessment qualifies for programme admission only. Facilities, ensembles, and scholarship deadline are the same as BM Performance — see that entry for complete details on the 568-seat Concert Hall, 175-seat Recital Hall, Recording Studio, and all ensembles.
