BM in Music Performance
Colorado State University-Fort Collins — Fort Collins, CO
About this program
CSU's BM in Music Performance is a professional degree that prepares students for potential careers in the music and creative industries as performers, entrepreneurs, and private music teachers, and for continued graduate-level study. Students select one of seven performance options: **jazz studies**, **orchestral instrument**, **organ**, **piano**, **piano pedagogy**, **string pedagogy**, or **voice**. The curriculum provides a solid foundation in music history, music theory, and performance, with many opportunities for large and small ensemble participation and solo recitals. All music majors receive applied instruction on their instrument from highly qualified faculty beginning in the first semester of study. Students apply knowledge from lessons and coursework across a variety of performing ensembles. Because the SMTD integrates all three performing arts areas, interdisciplinary projects and courses that cross music, theatre, and dance are a regular feature of the program. The Music Therapy program specializes in neuroscience and evidence-based practice, one of only a few such programs in the country. Scholarships are available for instrumental and vocal performance; the program audition also serves as the scholarship audition. A brief online Music Theory Diagnostic Exam is completed after acceptance for placement purposes only — results are not used in admissions decisions.
