BA in Theatre — Performance Concentration

Colorado State University-Fort Collins — Fort Collins, CO

BATheatre (General)Fort Collins, CO

About this program

CSU's BA in Theatre, Performance Concentration is designed to offer extensive opportunities in both the study and practice of theatrical performance. The concentration features foundational to advanced courses in multiple acting styles and approaches. Students learn Western "inside-out" approaches — Stanislavski and Meisner — based in the vocabulary of action, objective, and tactic, as well as "outside-in" approaches — Suzuki, clown, and Commedia dell'arte — based in character creation through the voice and body. Devising techniques including memoir, adaptation, and physical theatre complete the performance toolkit. All Performance Concentration students are required to audition for all main stage productions; participation in main stage seasons is embedded as course credit (TH 400, taken four times, one credit each). Core theatre class sizes are typically fewer than 20 students, providing a high level of personal interaction rarely found at a major university. The sole focus on undergraduate students means no competition with graduate students for production roles. Faculty and professional guest artists bring extensive experience on stages ranging from Broadway to regional theatres and worldwide. Success at regional and national festivals and summer professional placement and internships provide students with career-building opportunities. Annual theatre-specific education abroad programs are available.
