Charleston Southern University — Charleston, SC
About this program
The Bachelor of Arts in Music Education at Charleston Southern University is for instrumental or choral students who wish to be qualified for South Carolina certification upon graduation to teach music in the kindergarten through 12th grade level. CSU’s Music Education degree is the only program in the Lowcountry. The Music Education degree is a collaborative program shared between the College of Education and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (housing the Horton School of Music and Performing Arts), with comprehensive instruction delivered by faculty from both colleges. Choral music education is an intensive degree program that requires experience in a primary music field (voice or piano). In addition to practical teaching experiences and education and music courses, music education students participate extensively in ensembles and private studio instruction and are required to present a 30-minute recital on their primary instrument. A full semester of student teaching is also a requirement of the degree. Charleston Southern is a private Baptist-affiliated university in North Charleston, SC. NASM-accredited.
