About this program

The Bachelor of Arts in Music at Charleston Southern University, offered through the Horton School of Music and Performing Arts, prepares students for careers as professional musicians, educators, and music therapists, and serves as a center of musical art and culture for the Charleston region and beyond. Students may concentrate in Piano, Voice, Instrumental, or Guitar, perfecting their craft through rigorous study of technique, tone, musicianship, repertoire, stage presence, pedagogy, and professionalism. Students perform in various ensembles as well as solo and chamber recitals to hone their abilities, prepare two solo recitals, and have opportunities to perform in the community at various venues and on regional, national, and international trips. Voice students benefit from work in stage productions and study in technique, stage presence, multilanguage diction, and acting. Charleston Southern is a private Baptist-affiliated university in North Charleston, SC. Whittington Hall houses music classrooms, a rehearsal hall, music practice rooms, a music technology lab, and faculty offices (named for Jeff and Bernice Whittington). Lightsey Chapel Auditorium (1,500 seats) features a modern stage and the Margaret Kelly Hamrick Prayer Room. CSU is NASM-accredited. Studio lessons are taught by full-time performance faculty or other highly qualified musicians from the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and other professional organizations.
