About this program
Western Connecticut State University's BFA in Musical Theatre is a NAST-accredited program that prepares students for professional performance careers through an intensive curriculum and rigorous training. Located just one hour from midtown Manhattan, the program provides unique access to Broadway resources, including casting directors and agents for the annual Senior Showcase, Broadway choreographers for staged productions, and master classes with guest artists. The Department of Theatre Arts produces six MainStage productions annually in the brand-new, state-of-the-art Visual and Performing Arts Center, offering students extensive hands-on experience in all aspects of theatrical production. The program emphasizes professional training with faculty members who have worked extensively in Broadway and television, many of whom have received Tony, Drama Desk, and Emmy awards. Students benefit from close ties with professional organizations across the tri-state area, participation in The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF), and internship opportunities with New York City and Connecticut regional and professional theatres.
