About this program
The Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts at Western Connecticut State University is designed for students who wish to study theatre within the broader context of a liberal arts education. Unlike the more specialized BFA programs, the BA offers a more expansive, less specialized approach that allows students to emphasize areas of concentration such as performance, design/technology, theatre arts management, or drama studies. The program develops understanding and practice of theatre arts through the study of verbal, physical, visual, and research aspects of the craft, with emphasis on script analysis, exposure to diverse theatre repertory, and preparation for entry-level positions in theatre performance, design and technology, theatre arts management, and related entertainment industry fields, as well as for continuation with graduate studies or teaching. Students benefit from WCSU's NAST-accredited department, which produces six MainStage productions annually in a state-of-the-art facility and maintains close ties to professional organizations in the greater tri-state area, including proximity to New York City (one hour to midtown Manhattan).
