About this program
Vermont State University's Bachelor of Arts in Theater Arts is a comprehensive program designed for students passionate about all aspects of theater, from performing to technical production. Located in Castleton, Vermont, the program emphasizes hands-on, practical experience through small classes and a collaborative, project-based learning environment. Students explore diverse career paths including acting, directing, dance, stage management, lighting and sound design, video, set construction, and crew management. The program features state-of-the-art facilities including the 484-seat John and Susan Casella Theater with fly system, intelligent lighting, and concert sound capabilities, as well as an intimate Black Box Theater for student productions. A distinctive feature is early and ongoing performance experience—students work on a production every semester, providing real-world training that positions graduates for success in summer theater, off-Broadway, television, film, educational theater, and graduate programs. The curriculum includes two concentration options: Acting and Directing, and Technical Theater and Design, with a Musical Theater concentration also available.
