Vermont State University (VTSU) is a public university formed July 1, 2023 through the consolidation of Castleton University, Northern Vermont University, and Vermont Technical College. Performing arts programs are at the Castleton campus — Vermont's oldest institution of higher education (founded 1787). Acceptance rate approximately 81%; rolling admissions. The Casella Theater is a 484-seat proscenium venue with fly system, intelligent lighting, and professional concert sound. Vermont State University offers a BA in Music at Castleton with a General Concentration and a Performance Concentration. The General Concentration provides a foundation in music theory, music history, piano, and instrument/voice performance with flexibility to explore broad musical interests. Students may add a minor or second major in another field. Collaboration with Musical Theater students and productions is available.
