BA in Theatre Arts
University of the Incarnate Word — San Antonio, TX
About this program
The Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts at the University of the Incarnate Word is a comprehensive, nationally accredited program offered through the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. As one of only 11 nationally accredited theatre programs in Texas (accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre), UIW's program combines rigorous coursework with hands-on production experience to prepare students as performers, producers, designers, directors, and theatre professionals. With a 16:1 student-to-faculty ratio, students benefit from close collaboration with faculty and specialized instruction in acting, drama, production, and design. The program emphasizes critical thinking, creative problem solving, collaboration, and empathy through engagement with human perspective and artistic expression. The department produces approximately four professional-level plays annually, with students taking on leadership roles in costume, scenery, lighting, and sound design. Beyond campus productions, students have opportunities to work with international, regional, and local guest artists, and those demonstrating design talent can serve as designer or assistant designer on fully mounted productions in the local theatre community. The program enriches both the university and San Antonio communities while preparing graduates for postgraduate educational and professional opportunities in theatre.
