About this program
The Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) is Australia's most prestigious conservatoire for the performing and visual arts, located in Southbank, Melbourne, within the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music at the University of Melbourne. Founded in 1972, the VCA trains artists in Dance, Film and Television, Music Theatre, Theatre, Acting, Design and Production, Visual Art, and Writing. The Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, also within the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music, trains musicians at the BMus level. The VCA sits at the heart of Melbourne's extraordinary arts precinct — adjacent to Arts Center Melbourne, the National Gallery of Victoria, the Australian Center for the Moving Image, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and Melbourne Theatre Company — giving students direct immersion in one of the world's most vibrant arts ecosystems. All VCA and Conservatorium programmes require audition; applicants are ranked by audition result after meeting minimum academic requirements. Domestic students apply through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Center (VTAC; vtac.edu.au); the application process begins in August the year before intended entry. Advisory letters are sent mid-December; formal offers are issued in VTAC offer rounds from December through February. All BFA programmes carry a non-refundable supplementary application fee (waived for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants; waived or reduced for eligible Health Care Card holders). Equity access: Access Melbourne (VTAC equity scheme; adjusted ATAR; automatic scholarship consideration).
