About this program

The University of Hartford's Hartt School offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Theatre that integrates comprehensive actor training with rigorous instruction in singing and dance. Students receive weekly individual voice lessons along with classes in ear training and music theory to build a strong musical foundation. The program includes multiple levels of ballet, jazz, and tap to develop professional-level dance skills. A hallmark of the program is its extensive performance opportunities, starting with second-year projects and culminating in full-scale, professionally designed productions chosen to provide each class with challenging onstage experiences. In the fourth year, students are in residence at Goodspeed Musicals for three weeks in January working on a Festival of New Musicals. Music Theatre students may also audition for Hartford Stage Company's annual production of A Christmas Carol and other Equity productions, with many joining the Equity Membership Candidate Program during their time at Hartt. The program emphasizes career readiness through close relationships with industry professionals, faculty mentorship, and partnerships with regional theaters including Tony Award-winning Hartford Stage Company, Theaterworks of Hartford, and Goodspeed Musicals.
