About this program
The Bachelor of Arts in Ethnomusicology at The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music combines rigorous performance training in world music traditions with critical scholarship in the study of music as cultural practice. Students perform in ensembles representing diverse global traditions (West African, Balinese gamelan, Indian classical, Mariachi/Latin American, Klezmer/Jewish, Iranian, Armenian, Korean, Chinese, and many others) while studying music’s role in cultures around the world. UCLA’s Ethnomusicology program is one of the foundational programs in the field globally, with the Ethnomusicology Archive serving as a major research resource.
